Learning through Art

Take a look at some of the things PYP 3 has been learning throughout their Art Unit!

Nature in Art:

Children learned about famous artists that liked painting and drawing nature scenes.
Then they went outside and experimented drawing some nature elements and scenes on their sketch books.

Photography:

Children had the visit of Kris Knack, a professional photographer. She showed some of her work and explained how photography can also be a form of art.

She also showed them how they could incorporate nature into their photography.

Then they had the chance of          putting their learning into                          action.

They chose some natural elements such as leafs, twigs  and flowers and took turns           being the models and the                       photographers.

Abstract vs Realism art:

Children have been learning the meaning and difference of abstract and realism art.

They practiced still drawing of some arranged objects...

...and experimented creating their own abstract paintings

Painting on textured surface:

Mr. Concagh visited PYP 3 and showed the students how he worked on his paintings using textured surfaces.

He also told them how he liked to create a collage effect canvas.
Students were allowed to create texture using a cement wash and bits of cotton canvas.

They were then encouraged to        express their ideas using a                variety of colours.

 Crafting:

PYP 3 Beta also had the opportunity to visit the secondary art room and have a lesson with Mrs Wilson on crafting.

They had help from some secondary students to create decorative shoes

First they used strips of          cardboard to make the mold                     of the shoe...

...then they covered them with strips on newspaper dipped in glue...

... after that they covered the       shoe one more time with white                  tissue paper...

...once dry they took them to      the classroom and were able to       paint them and decorate them.

They were encouraged to add colours and patterns to their model.

Doodling:

PYP 3 also had Mrs Eretsky's visit. She showed them some of her art work and talked about some of the techniques she likes to use.

She told them how she likes to using black and white in her drawings and paintings.

Later the children had the opportunity to try their own doodling with black lines and curves...

,

,,.Carefully adding some colour on just a few spaces.

Secondary art exhibition:

Lastly, PYP 3 beta had the opportunity to visit the Secondary art exhibition and see the art work from some of the DP students.

Stay tuned for a demonstration of their final products...

...coming soon on their End of the year presentation!
