More Art Investigation

How we express ourselves

Central Idea:
People express ideas and feelings through different forms of art.

“Expressing Ourselves Through Sculpture”

Mr Concagh showed students a sculpture by Michelangelo and then asked them to compare it with the work of the Modern Sculptor Henry Moore. They noticed that Moore´s sculptures had holes in them. After talking to students about why Moore would put holes in his sculptures they began to use special clay tools to carve out the clay. Students worked in groups and used the figure to help them make their final piece.

PYP 7 visit to PYP3

One of the ways we can express ourselves is through poetry and we had the pleasure of welcoming PYP7 to recite poems, showing us how the body moves can add a lot to the words uttered by their mouths. It was amazing!

They were delighted by the awesome presentations of
poems such as:

Eletelephony

Laura Elizabeth Richards

Once there was an elephant,
Who tried to use the telephant—
No! No! I mean an elephone
(Dear me! I am not certain quite
Who tried to use the telephone—
Howe’er it was, he got his trunk
That even now I’ve got it right.)
Entangled in the telephunk;
(I fear I’d better drop the song
The more he tried to get it free, The louder buzzed the telephee—
Of elephop and telephong!)

We are sure that none of our little investigators will be
the same after they have lived so many discoveries
in the wonderful world of Art!

Stay tunned for more discoveries soon!

Making a sculpture from a plastic bag and a stone:

Here is the email they sent to us after the visit:

Dear Jaqueline,

Thank you for your e-mail. It was a wonderful and rich experience being with the students at both campuses. I studied at an I.B. School and yesterday was a beautiful way of remembering some of my most treasured memories. Congratulations to the whole staff and thank you to James Concagh for the lovely message. Working with a smaller group at Pinheiros really help us develop a great conversation and have immediate feedback from the students.

I hope you will share with us any result or feedback that may come from our presentation. Felipe and I left the schools thinking of ways to be able to have your students, family and staff visiting Inhotim in the near future. It would be wonderful to continue the conversation.

Best wishes,

María Eugenia

Thank you, Felipe and Maria Eugênia, for sharing this wonderful experience with PYP 3!

I hear, I feel, I wonder...

In PYP 3 Sigma, children listened to Beethoven and wrote about their wonderings and the way they felt.

Ilustrador Marcelo Scaff visita
St. Francis College.

Thank you, Marcelo, for coming and sharing your
                            knowledge with PYP 3!
