PYP 3 students are organising and categorising forms as part of their present Unit of Inquiry. For this particular Visual Art activity the students were asked to sit in a circle and observe how they might categorise an array of recycling materials that were spread out before them. They came up with the idea of separating things in the following way:
a) Colour
b) The material they were made from
c) Shapes
d) How the materials felt - hard/soft/rough
Students were then asked which materials they would like to work with and consequently divided into groups. They were then encouraged to organise the materials to make a final composition through cooperating and listening to each other’s ideas. When they had decided where things were going to go they positioned the materials and began pasting them down on the paper. At the end of the class students were asked to observe how each group organised their final composition.
All classes had their art pieces displayed in school.
