We are thinking of ways to reduce, reuse and recycle materials.

As part of their unit of inquiry students were asked to consider using reusable objects as a means to making something creative and useful. They were exposed to a series of discardable materials and encouraged to reconsider them in a different way so that a plastic bottle could suddenly become an aeroplane or a yogurt carton could be turned into a flower pot! These challenges allowed students to become aware that everyday objects could be given an entirely different meaning.

Students were asked to sketch an idea of what they wanted to make with reusable materials

Students were encouraged to select their materials and then reflect on how they could arrange them and join them 

together

Students worked individually and in groups to find ways of decorating their final reusable object

PYP 3 continues their inquiry into....

"The environment is affected by the way people use resource"

Throughout their investigation into some of the environmental problems we face in the world, PYP 3 students found four main PROBLEMS they wanted to look further into:


1) The rain-forests are disappearing 

2) There is too much garbage in the world and is polluting the environment and the water.

3) There is not a lot of drinkable water left in the world.

4) The air is too polluted. 

The children then divided themselves into groups according to their interest and begun investigated some of the CAUSES for these problems.

 The environment is affected by the way 

people use resources.

During these first weeks we have been discussing about the different problems faced by our planet, such as pollution, waste of resources, deforestation, among others.
