Our New Unit of Inquiry

Unit 2

People organise themselves to better understand the world around them.

PYP 3 has just started their new Unit of Inquiry on how people organise information to better understand the world. To help determine students prior knowledge on the concept of organisation, students carried a thinking routine called "I SEE, I THINK, I WONDER"
In this thinking routine children were first invited to look around the classroom and say what they could see that helped them organised themselves. Next, they had to choose one of those items and complete the sentence "I think...", referring to the chosen item.
Finally, they said what they wondered their classroom would be like without this item in the classroom.
Below is the table with the summary of children's responses:

 I see

I think

I wonder
 If there is no _____________

Clock

Calendar

Our routine

Classroom Library

Boxes

The clock shows the time/ measures the hours.

The calendar shows the days/ the weekend.

Our routine has activities.

The library is clean. It organises the books.

Boxes are good because they are big.

We won’t know the time.

We won’t know what day it is.

We won’t know if lunch is now.

If there is no classroom library we can’t read books.

If there are no boxes, it would be hard. We wouldn’t know where to put things.

Mr Topsy Turvy and Little Miss Tidy

Mr Men and Little Miss book characters have been used to discuss what a messy routine would be like and how can things be better organised.
On Friday, your child took a letter containing instructions for parents and a worksheet with an investigation about how things are organised in a chosen area at home.
You may access the link below to print out this hand out and work with your child at home.
Their findings will be shared during circle time throughout this and coming weeks.

PYP 3's Cultural Picnic and Assemblies

Our First Unit of Inquiry came to an end in a very special afternoon!
Last Friday all classes organised a picnic with the help of families, who sent in food related to their traditions. A BIG THANK YOU to all families!

The picnic demonstrated children's cultural differences and similarities and they all had the chance to appreciate diverse meals and treats from all over the world.
They certainly enjoyed this special time together.

We are posting a few pictures:

PYP 3 Sigma

PYP 3 Omega

PYP 3 Beta

PYP 3 Beta invited PYP 2 over for their cultural picnic, they each presented what they had brought and explained what country it was from.
Then they all had a blast trying and experimenting different kinds of foods and flavours! Well done for the risk-takers!

PYP 3 Sigma's Assembly

Children presented the assembly based on our first Unit of Inquiry "WHO WE ARE".
They looked at personal characteristics, family history and the way they connect to each other through comparing and contrasting their families and themselves. Children also had fun to present a fun dance and sing songs related to our investigation.
